Downtown Ministries originated as a means of connecting individuals from diverse cultures through youth sports programs to demonstrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the development of consistent and meaningful relationships. Over the years, volunteers with Downtown Ministries sports teams, the Downtown Falcons, have coached and impacted the lives of hundreds of children in Athens who have the greatest need.
The Downtown Falcons program has grown to include four football teams of players ages 4-12, four cheerleading squads, three boys and one girls basketball teams allowing us to reach and demonstrate Christ-centered hope and encouragement to nearly 200 inner-city children each year.
Downtown Ministries also hosts an after-school tutoring program for elementary students in the city. Downtown Ministries has also adopted a Cub Scout troop especially for the inner-city boys the ministry exists to serve.
