Proposed DtA Adapted Calendar 2020.jpg

Scheduling a Safe Reopening

We need your help! Please weigh in via the Parent Survey as to how we can schedule a safe and excellent return to school this year at Downtown Academy.

DtA is considering an adapted calendar for the school year that addresses the needs of our children academically, emotionally, and physically in what will likely be a school year unlike any we’ve ever known.

The proposed calendar continues to align with CCSD regarding major holidays and school breaks. However, the current start and end dates are both a week later than CCSD's.

The major adaptation of the proposed calendar is the elimination of Fridays as an instructional day. The local school district has concluded that Friday will be a “distance learning” day for all students. While DtA does not necessarily follow CCSD directives, such a decision from the district will have a substantial impact on many DtA families. However, by removing the burden of online class on a Friday, rather than requiring students (and parents) to log on, we hope to accomplish two main goals: 1) maintaining the emotional endurance of students, parents and staff across the school year, 2) allowing additional time for DtA to be cleaned and sanitized.

Of course, if things substantially change to improve in our community, we may consider the option to return to a more “typical” calendar.
